A nursery is being built up in Pipiapan. In the tropics greenhouses are not needed, but instead the plants need to be protected from the harsh sun. So by clearing off the vegetation underneath trees is a great way to use the natures resources for natural shade. As I have understood it these trees will be used to help replant the rainforest and especially in poor villages in the rainforest where logging have caused severe problems for the local community. What I am truly facinated over is the entire construction of these boxes up at the research station. The station is located approx 10 min from a road and hence you need a four wheel drive to make it up there. For five days a fourwheel driv truck was constantly coming up the mountain to deliver the right type of soil needed, then we have the water issue. There is no running water and as you know when planting plants if there is one thing you need its plenty of water. This is transported up the hill several times a day in a fourwheel drive. Then we have the whole construction of the boxes where the seeds are planted. They are built from the leftover logs that were created when clearing out underneath the canopy. If it wouldn't have been because of all the transports made up the hill in cars/trucks that have long past their due date this could have been classified as a really really ecofriendly project. No machines other than the cars have been used while creating this nursery.
